Data Security

Data security is our Number One priority - Period!

Data security is the number one concern our customers have around their equipment. To provide even greater comfort to our customers, our company has become NAID AAA Certified for both Data Erasure and Data Destruction services. NAID AAA Certification is reserved for only those companies willing to go the extra mile to ensure the safe and secure handling of customer data from both a procedural and documentation reporting framework. Our company’s data security practices meet and exceed those required to become certified and we are proud to say we provide top-of-the-line services to our customers.

Data Security Measures

  • Secure Transportation of Equipment: All of our vehicles are equipped with vehicle locks on the interior and exterior of the trucks. We utilize vehicle GPS monitoring technology so we can effectively track and ensure the safety and security of equipment on board from the time it leaves your facility until the time it reaches ours.

  • 24/7 Monitored Facility: Our operating facility has 24/7 surveillance utilizing infrared video security cameras that are monitored by our security team and uploaded directly to our cloud-based retention provider.  All visitors to our facility must sign-in and are escorted by a CSAD employee whenever they are in our warehouse area.  We also perform criminal background checks and random drug testing for all employees who have access to customer data.

  • Secured Data Cage: Our facility possesses a locked cage which is used to perform data sanitization and data destruction procedures. After being processed through our sorting and data sanitization teams, all removable hard drives at our facility are stored and erased in our secure data cage before being used in refurbished devices by our engineering department. Access to the data cage is limited to essential personnel performing data erasure or destruction procedures on devices.

Data Processing Options

All devices we receive from our customers are either sanitized of all data or physically destroyed to ensure no customer data leaves our facility. Our methods of data processing are dependent on the types of equipment received, how data is stored on each type of device and what our customers request be done with their equipment. Methods used for removable and embedded storage devices are described in more detail below:

1 . Data Sanitization:

Desktops, Laptops and All-in-Ones: We encounter several different types of data-bearing media that come through our facility. Our Sanitization Department and computer technicians sanitize and erase all data on devices using industry-leading sanitization software which performs hard drive and solid-state drive erasure procedures complying with the NIST 800-88 erasure standards.

Chromebooks, Tablets, Phones and other data-bearing equipment: For Apple-based tablets and other Apple devices, our professional technicians utilize Apple’s recommended application software “Apple Configurator” to perform a full system data wipe, device testing, and reinstallation of the latest supported OS for each device type. For all other tablets, phones, Chromebooks and data-bearing equipment, our technicians follow the recommended data sanitization procedures based on the type of device and manufacturer (i.e., Chromebook Powerwash process)

Because of how important data security is for our clients, we always perform secondary verification checks and periodic quality control checks to ensure that all sensitive information has been completely erased from devices prior to resale.

2 . Data Destruction:

For devices that require data destruction or upon customer request, we maintain an on-site industrial shredder (Ameri-shred AMS-500HD Series 2 Hard Drive Shredder) which is capable of permanently destroying large quantities of hard drives, and other small media devices, producing a maximum shred size of approximately 1.5 inches and permanently destroying the data-bearing media.
